REASONS FOR DESIGNATION

479 BURLINGTON AVENUE

Built circa 1914 by Robert John Allen, this craftsman style bungalow makes a strong contribution to the heritage of both Burlington Avenue and Ontario Street.  The renovation of the house and the landscaping of the garden by Hager Creek both demonstrate how a property’s heritage value may be enhanced by attention to historic materials and craftsmanship.  Details such as rug brick, cedar shingles, exposed raftertails under the eaves, and replicated craftsman style windows restore the original character of the house.
