SCHEDULE "A" REASONS FOR DESIGNATION
Built in 1929 by Hughes Cleaver in partnership with English Inns Ltd., "The Pig and Whistle Inn" is an historical landmark structure on the Lakeshore Road at the eastern gateway to Burlington. It was built in the English Tudor Revival Style, with a post-and-beam roof structure. Multi-paned casement windows are recessed with curved eyebrows into a high-pitched roof with thatched-look rolled asphalt shingles. A massive tall fieldstone stone chimney stands at the east side of the front elevation. For almost 70 years "The Pig and Whistle Inn" was a popular restaurant and night spot for dining, drinking, and dancing. The structure has been preserved, restored, and renovated for adaptive re-use as part of the new Hearthstone-by-the-Lake condominium community. |
