REASONS FOR DESIGNATION

2477 GLENWOOD SCHOOL DRIVE

Locust Lodge, built circa 1838 by James Willson, is one of the oldest farm houses in Burlington.  It was constructed of local limestone, probably by the stonemason who built two other houses on the Guelph Line at about the same time: Ireland House and the Fisher homestead, Shady Cottage.  The parging in an ashlar pattern of its coursed rubble walls is a distinguishing feature which indicates the unusual prosperity of the farm's early owners.  The symmetrical three-bay Georgian front facade is virtually intact.  Little remains of the original 200 acre farm but the garden and a few locust trees.
