The Sound of Music has exploded in size since its modest beginnings in 1980 as a marching band parade. Operating as a not-for-profit corporation, the Sound of Music organization stages Canada's Largest Free Music Festival every year in June.
Due to the passion, love and commitment of hundreds of volunteers, a small staff, and a roster of generous sponsors and suppliers, music takes over Downtown Burlington and the waterfront.

As a population of almost 200,000 people, Burlington loses over 1200 of our residents each year. Each person plays a valuable part in our city, contributing to families, friendships, businesses and our culture. Every loss is deeply felt by our community.
Burlington's Annual “In Memoriam” Day was created to help recognize members of the community who have passed away in the previous year and provide an opportunity to grieve together and support one another through these losses.
The flags at City Hall will be lowered and the Burlington Pier will be lit white on this day in their honour.
The annual In Memoriam Day will continue to be held on the last Thursday of March each year.
