New season at Tyandaga Golf Course gets underway Saturday, April 28, 2018

Burlington, Ont. – April 24, 2018— It’s time to dust off your golf clubs and shine your shoes. The City of Burlington’s Tyandaga Golf Course will officially open for the 2018 golf season on Saturday, April 28.

Tyandaga offers memberships, tournaments, clinics, private lessons, men’s and women’s league play, and in-season and off-season rentals. The course combines a perfect mix of urban convenience with rural beauty, natural waterways, contours and mature trees as well as dining and catered private or corporate events.

Players wishing to book a tee time can do so online at tyandagagolf.com.

City of Burlington now offers new, online marriage licence quick-pass

Nothing deflates a good spring romance like a long wait at the Service Burlington counter at City Hall to get your marriage licence. As a result, the City of Burlington has launched the new online, marriage licence quick-pass. The online quick-pass can save doe-eyed lovers valuable time at the counter of Service Burlington so they can focus on other things.

Marriage Licence Quick-Pass Process

  1. Complete and submit the online Quick-Pass at burlington.ca/marriagelicences  
  2. Print and both parties sign the application
  3. Bring the signed application to Service Burlington at City Hall, 426 Brant St., Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to pick up your marriage licence. One or both applicants must be present with the signed application and the proper identification for both parties
  4. Go get married

Once at the counter, the estimated time to completion is five to 10 minutes.

City to recognize Olympians who competed in PyeongChang

Burlington, Ont.—April 19, 2018— The City of Burlington is recognizing the athletes from Burlington who competed in the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.

Two events are planned for April and May:

Monday, April 23

6 p.m. reception and photo opportunity

Burlington City Hall, Atrium

6:30 p.m. recognition by City Council

Tuesday, May 22

6 p.m. reception and photo opportunity

Burlington City Hall, Atrium

6:30 p.m. recognition by City Council

We encourage everyone to come have refreshments and meet our Olympians on one of these two dates.

The city has confirmed these athletes:

April 23: 

  • Darren Gardner, Snowboard

May 22:

  • Renata Fast, Ice Hockey

We will also recognize Jesse Lumsden of the bobsleigh team and speed skater Keri Morrison.

Frank McKeown to retire as BEDC Executive Director

Burlington, Ont.—April 19, 2018— The Burlington Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) Board announced today that Frank McKeown has advised the Board he will be retiring from his role as Executive Director effective June 27, 2018.

McKeown joined BEDC in 2014 and quickly began the redevelopment of the business model at BEDC to focus on supporting businesses to locate, start up and expand in Burlington. In 2017, BEDC worked with over 300 businesses to support them to relocate and grow in Burlington. BEDC has helped develop more than 4000 new jobs in Burlington over the last four years.

Among McKeown’s other accomplishments during his tenure:

  • aligning BEDCs Economic Vision with the city's Strategic Plan and the Official Plan
  • launching TechPlace, BEDC's new innovation centre focused on helping companies start up and grow. In the first year of operations, TechPlace had over 3500 visitors, hosted over 50 events and developed a LaunchPad program that has attracted high growth startups like...

Burlington, Ont.—April 18, 2018— Two festivals are planned for Saturday, May 5 to celebrate spring and the City of Burlington’s twin cities, Apeldoorn, The Netherlands and Itabashi, Japan.

The annual celebration of Canada Netherlands Friendship Day will recognize the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands by the Canadian Armed Forces and the 13th anniversary of the City of Burlington’s twinning with the City of Apeldoorn. The event is from 11 a.m. to noon at City Hall, Civic Square and will feature:

  • Alexander’s Public School concert band
  • Raising of the Canadian and Dutch flags
  • Greetings from Mayor Rick Goldring, Consul General Anne Le Guellec, Elizabeth Witmer, former Deputy Premier of Ontario
  • A special poem dedicated to Apeldoorn by Dan Murray
  • Apeldoorn and Burlington student artwork display.
