Public Art Master Plan

City of Burlington seeking input on Public Art Master Plan

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a public art master plan review should be worth millions. The City of Burlington is looking to gather feedback into the Public Art Master Plan.

Residents are invited to provide feedback through a standard online survey and through a mapping tool to show where they would like to see public art, or attend one of the public drop-in sessions. The online tools can be found at burlingtonpublicart.com/master-plan-review and will be open until Feb. 2, 2018.

Burlington Arts and Culture Fund launches, hosts information session

The City of Burlington is launching the Burlington Arts and Culture Fund (BACF), an annual program that provides grants to local artists, multicultural groups and arts and culture organizations to foster creativity and enrich how Burlington residents experience and engage with arts and culture.

Applications will be accepted until Feb. 28, 2018 and will fund projects from April 2018 to April 2019. Successful grant applicants will be announced at the end of March 2018.

To be eligible for BACF funding, applicants must be located in Burlington and must be:

  • An incorporated non-profit arts and culture organization, or;
  • A charitable arts and culture organization, an individual artist, an arts and cultural collective or a multicultural group.

Grants will be evaluated in part by a peer assessment jury for artistic merit and by city staff for program merit and strategic initiative, citywide and community impact and economic impact. A committee of local arts and cultural professionals and the Arts...

Burlington's proposed new Official Plan

Burlington, Ont. – Jan. 4, 2018— Discussion with Burlington City Council about the city’s proposed new Official Plan, including the proposed new Downtown Precinct Plan, will continue at a series of upcoming committee meetings.

The meeting dates are as follows:

Topics of discussion:
Sections of the proposed new Official Plan that relate to the rural area, agriculture, natural heritage, greenspace and mineral aggregates.

This meeting serves as continuation to the Nov. 30, 2017 Planning and Development Committee meeting.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting or watch a live webcast. The meeting will not include further delegations.

Proposed 2018 Operating Budget

Review of city’s proposed 2018 operating budget takes place Jan. 18: Proposed city tax increase of 4.19%

Burlington, Ont. – Jan. 2, 2018—A review of the City of Burlington’s proposed 2018 operating budget will take place on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 9:30 a.m. at a Committee of the Whole budget meeting.

The 2018 operating budget delivers a base budget increase of 0.46 per cent to maintain city service levels.

Other impacts to the 2018 operating budget include:

  • $1.9 million or an additional tax increase of 1.25 per cent dedicated to the renewal of city infrastructure as outlined in the Asset Management Plan.
  • $1 million or an additional tax increase of 0.65 per cent for legislative changes to the Employment Standards and Labour Relations Acts (Bill 148) including increases to minimum wage.
  • $1.3 million or an additional tax increase of 0.84 per cent for changes in transit to provide operational sustainability.
  • $1.2 million or an additional tax increase of 0.78 per cent for impacts from the 2014 arbitrated Fire settlement.
