Elgin Street Promenade

Construction for this section of pathway is now finished. The Centennial Trail that runs from Burloak Drive to Downtown Burlington is now complete.

Elgin Street Promenade final concept plan Features of this design include:

Curvilinear, organic design layout of amenities and paving
open and versatile space for pop-up events
Custom seating elements specific to this layout
Large shade trees for filtered shade
Continuation of the 4m wide Promenade (matching paving, bollards, lighting to existing Phases)
Perennial and shrub plantings
Several site amenities, including seating (AODA accessible), bike racks, waste receptacles, bike repair station
Flexible concrete paving open space for passive seating, events, etc.
Shared lawn space
Unique play element space (see-saw bench, etc.)
Water fountain and water misters for warm temperature relief

Irving Parkette – Renewal

The City of Burlington is renewing Irving Parkette in the summer of 2021.

Proposed Improvements

This project includes:

New playground equipment and swings
New engineered wood fibre safety surface for playground and swings
Asphalt pathway
New drinking fountain, metal picnic tables with umbrellas, benches and bike racks
Removal of existing playground equipment
Removal of the wood pergola and stone seat wall
Removal of the paving stone pathway

Palmer Trail Phase 2 - Heathfield Drive to Mainway

Construction: September to December 2021

The City is constructing Palmer Trail Phase 2, located east of Centennial Drive in the corridor between Heathfield Drive and Mainway. This is a multi-use recreational trail that will connect to the section previously constructed, between Upper Middle Road and Heathfield Drive.

The new trail will include:

A three-metre-wide paved surface
Gradual slopes at less than four per cent
Benches
Garbage can
Bollards and curb ramps at intersections
Trees
A trailhead sign

For your safety, the area will be closed during construction.

ICIP Funding

A portion of this project is funded by the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) from the Provincial and Federal governments.

Colin Alton Parkette

Colin Alton Parkette, in Alton West Village, is now open!

Construction started in October 2020 and was complete in June 2021.

Colin Alton Parkette includes:

New playground with wood fibre safety surface and accessible shaded seating areas
Small leash free area for dogs that is fully fenced with double gate access
Accessible 200m loop paved path
Outdoor fitness equipment designed for a range of abilities
Drinking fountain with ground level dog bowl
Park benches, litter receptacle, picnic tables with umbrellas, and bike racks
Tree planting and naturalized shrub beds

Living Lab

The City has partnered with Vineland Research and Innovation Centre to turn Colin Alton Parkette into a living science lab! Champlain Park Renewal

Update, Jan. 13, 2022:

Construction at Champlain Park has experienced significant delays and we thank you for your patience.

At this time, the entire park is still closed. Specific areas of the park will be open to the public in the coming weeks. We expect that the playground and pathways will be open for use in February 2022. The baseball diamond will remain closed until at least August 2022.

Work on the ball diamond, additional asphalt, and sodding and seeding will start in Spring 2022 when weather allows.
