Introducing PRESTO contactless

Posted on Monday, January 23, 2023 02:00 PM

No cash? No problem. You now have more ways to pay when you use transit in Burlington and across the GHTA!

PRESTO contactless is an easy way to pay and get on the bus. You can use your credit card to pay your Burlington Transit fare, including cards on your phone or watch. Simply tap your card, phone or watch on a PRESTO machine when you get on the Burlington Transit bus. You can also use PRESTO contactless on Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit (DRT), GO Transit, Hamilton Street Railway (HSR), MiWay, Oakville Transit and York Region Transit (YRT).

When you use PRESTO contactless, the fare you pay is the same as our cash fare.

Most major credit cards, such as Visa, Mastercard and American Express, are accepted. When tapping a phone or watch, please select the payment card you’d like to pay with in your mobile wallet. For some phones and watches, you may need to unlock your device before tapping.

For more information, please visit our PRESTO contactless page.

Kids can tap into free on Burlington Transit

Posted on Friday, January 20, 2023 02:15 PM

Starting March 1, 2023, kids 12 and under will still ride free simply by tapping their PRESTO card or taking Burlington Transit with their parent or guardian.

This change will allow older children who travel on their own to be able to keep using Burlington Transit for free. After March 1, Burlington Transit bus drivers will ask all passengers to tap their PRESTO card as they board.

This February, Burlington Transit is giving away 1,000 kids’ PRESTO cards!

Pick up a free kids’ Presto card at the Downtown Transit Terminal, 430 John St., and at various locations in the community. Follow Burlington Transit on Twitter for PRESTO card giveaway location details. Please bring proof of age, such as a birth certificate, to get a free kids’ PRESTO card.

Have a PRESTO card and turning 13 soon?

Please change your PRESTO card from a kids’ card to a youth card so you are not charged the adult fare.

Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.: Honouring our veterans on Remembrance Day

Posted on Thursday, November 10, 2022 09:17 AM

Burlington Transit will be remembering those who fought for our freedom and honouring veterans on Remembrance Day by pausing service for a moment of silence on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022 at 11 a.m.

Just before 11 a.m., our buses will stop in a safe spot and stay there until the moment of silence has finished. Handi-Van vehicles will stop at a safe location on the road. The downtown transit terminal and specialized dispatch will also pause service at 11 a.m.

All service will resume right after the two-minute pause.

Service hours

Burlington Transit will run on a regular weekday schedule on Friday, Nov. 11. The downtown terminal at 430 John St. and specialized dispatch will also be open regular hours.

Remembrance Day procession and ceremonies have returned to in-person this year. Burlington Transit buses traveling in the downtown area will detour around the parade route and ceremony road closures.
