Sept. 19: Service pause in honour of Queen Elizabeth II

Posted on Friday, September 16, 2022 01:29 PM

We are joining our transit partners across the province to pause all service on Monday, Sept. 19 for 96 seconds at 1 p.m. in honour of Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II, on the day of her funeral. We invite you to join us to pause for a moment of silence on the National Day of Mourning.

All Burlington Transit service will pause for this moment of silence. Just before 1 p.m., our buses will stop where it is safe to do so and stay there until the moment of silence has finished. Handi-Van vehicles will stop at a safe location on the road. The downtown transit terminal and specialized dispatch will also pause service at 1 p.m.

All service will resume right after the 96-second pause.

This pause is part of the Province of Ontario’s moment of silence following Her Late Majesty’s State Funeral on Monday. This is the last day of the official period of mourning in Canada for Queen Elizabeth II.

Be kind. Be thoughtful. Be aware.

Transit agencies throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area, including Burlington Transit, are asking you and all  our customers, to think about your fellow travellers with a disability - visible and non-visible.

As you travel on transit, think about what you can do to help others travel safely and comfortably. This can be as simple as getting up from a priority or courtesy seat or providing room while a person with a disability boards a bus.

Let’s make sure we all able to get where we are going.

Understanding gets us all there safely. Priority boarding enables passengers with disabilities to get on and off transit as safely as possible.

Be aware, look up at every stop. If you are able, offer your seat to passengers with visible and non-visible disabilities.

Stand up for your neighbours. If you are able, offer your seat to other passengers.

Remember not all disabilities are visible. Offer your seat...
