City of Burlington names Heather MacDonald as new Director of City Building

Burlington, Ont.—May 28, 2018— The City of Burlington will welcome respected public-sector leader Heather MacDonald as the new Director of City Building effective June 25, 2018.

MacDonald is currently the acting Vice President, Project Planning in Planning and Development at Metrolinx. Previously, MacDonald has worked at the City of Brampton where she was Interim Commissioner, Planning and Development Services and at the City of Mississauga where she held series of progressive roles in human resources and planning, including Director, Policy Planning; Director, Organizational Wellness; and Director, Strategic Housing Initiatives.

MacDonald is a Registered Professional Planner and Certified Human Resources Leader. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo and is a graduate of the Executive Program at Queen’s University and the Advanced Human Resources Studies program at the University of Toronto.

Construction of downtown Burlington’s new multi-use pathway project continues with installation of two new art pieces, Portal and Main Squeeze

Burlington, Ont.—May 25, 2018
— Construction on the new multi-use pathway project in downtown Burlington is continuing with the installation of two new sculptures.

Portal, located in the new 300-m2 public space near Brant Street, between James Street and Pine Street, is scheduled to be installed beginning Tuesday, May 29. Main Squeeze will be installed on the privacy fence between Elizabeth Street and Pearl Street starting Thursday, May 31.

Work to install Portal is anticipated to take three days. During the installation, the northwest section of Parking Lot 5 on Brant Street will be closed to allow for heavy equipment, and access to the parking lot from Brant Street will be closed. The northeast section of the Parking Lot 5 will remain open and drivers can enter the lot from John Street.

Portal, a sculpture by acclaimed Canadian art and design collective Studio F Minus, is made from two 10-foot-diameter panes of glass, each weighing approximately 725 kilograms (1,600 pounds)....

Burlington, Ont.—May 24, 2018—The City of Burlington is launching a new, free community space called “Haber Hub” at Haber Recreation Centre at 3040 Tim Dobbie Dr.

Haber Hub space is free to any neighbourhood or community group looking to provide free community programs and events to Burlington residents. The space is available for rent as well for those looking to host an event or program that is charging a user fee or is a private program or event.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation is closing the ramp to QEW Fort Erie bound fromNorthshore Boulevard

Tuesday, May 22 at 7 a.m. 

It will remain closed until 5 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018.

There will be

  • No access to QEW Fort Erie bound from Northshore Boulevard.

Please plan alternate routes for the duration of the closure. You can access the QEW Fort Erie bound from the Fairview Street on-ramp.

The closure is for construction.
