Burlington, Ont. - Aug. 5, 2014 -The City of Burlington is providing evacuation centres tonight for people who are not comfortable staying in their homes as a result of flooded basements or a gas line leak near Upper Middle Road and Cleaver Avenue.
Evacuation centres have been set up at the Burlington Seniors’ Centre at 2285 New St. and Mainway Recreation Centre at 4015 Mainway, east of Walkers Line. Residents should take Brant Street to James Street to New Street to reach the Seniors’ Centre and Guelph Line or Burloak Drive to Mainway to reach Mainway Recreation Centre.
The city and its emergency partners continue to encourage motorists not to drive unless necessary. There are multiple road closures on city streets and on the QEW.
Residents are also urged to keep children and pets away from creeks and keep away from parks during the cleanup following the flooding.
People with flooded basements can call 311. For emergencies, please call 911.
