Alert Burlington is Burlington’s public notification system for community emergencies. Residents and anyone who works within Burlington are encouraged to subscribe to the free community alert service.
When a community emergency is possible or has already happened, important messages will be sent by text, email or recorded phone message to anyone who subscribes and lives or works within the affected area. Messages can also be sent out in various languages.
To register, you will be asked to create an account with your name, address and mobile phone number, land-line phone number and/or email.
It is recommended that anyone who is registered log-in once a year to ensure their contact information is accurate.
To comply with the SMS regulations of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA), we must indicate that message delivery is not guaranteed, and that SMS text message rates may apply.

What are some instances where I might receive an alert? |

No, Alert Burlington is for emergencies only. In the same way that the province uses the Alert Ready system sparingly to ensure their alerts do not lose their urgency and importance, the City recognizes that Alert Burlington should only distribute notifications when absolutely necessary during large-scale emergencies. |

I already receive Alert Ready notifications, why should I sign up for Alert Burlington? |
Alert Ready is Canada’s national emergency alert system, and it pushes alerts through television, radio and LTE connected and compatible devices. If the established criteria are met, municipalities in Ontario must send a request to Emergency Management Ontario to issue an Alert Ready alert on their behalf. Emergency Management Ontario has processes to follow before issuing Alert Ready alerts on behalf of a municipality. Time is of the essence during emergencies, which is why the City of Burlington created Alert Burlington, so that our staff can issue Alert Burlington alerts directly. This means that Alert Burlington alerts will be sent faster to Alert Burlington subscribers than Alert Ready alerts. What are some instances where I might receive an alert?
