The Ministry of the Attorney General oversees the administration and accreditation of all court Interpreters.
Please check on the Ministry of the Attorney General website to get further information about becoming accredited as an Interpreter.
When scheduling Interpreters, Halton Court Services refers to the up-to-date Registry of Accredited Freelance Interpreters provided by the Ministry of the Attorney General.
Interpreters should not call the court office for assignments. A Trial Coordinator will contact an Interpreter when one is required.
Accredited Interpreters are paid in accordance with the Ministry of the Attorney General Fee Schedule.
The current fees are outlined below.
Interpreters who reside less than 24 kilometres one way from the Halton Provincial Offences court location will not be paid expenses for travel.
Interpreters who travel over 24 kilometres one way will be reimbursed for mileage expenses. The total distance will be calculated according to the shortest distance on Google Maps between the Interpreter's home address and the Halton Provincial Offences Court (excluding toll routes). This is in accordance with the Ministry of the Attorney General's Guidelines
