New recruits
Paul Killingbeck Class of March 2018
This recruit class has been dedicated to a former member of the Burlington Fire Department, Paul Killingbeck. Officer Killingbeck served Burlington and its residents for over 20 years, before he passed away in 1987 at the age of 42 from lung cancer. Killingbeck began his career as a firefighter and worked his way to becoming a fire prevention officer. His work in the fire prevention office helped create the foundation for programs still being delivered today.
In 2008, he was honoured with a Line of Duty Death (L.O.D.D) designation and posthumous medal for his service. His name was inscribed on the I.A.F.F. National Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs.

Quotes
Fire Chief Dave Lazenby
“To be a firefighter, to be called a firefighter and to wear the firefighter epaulettes, is something that is earned, not freely given. I am proud to say that all of our recruits possess the qualities that we desire in our firefighters and I look forward to their future at the department.”
Mayor Rick Goldring
“Firefighters are essential members of our community. They risk their safety for ours, they educate and spread the important message of fire prevention and are passionate about creating positive change in our city. I’d like to thank the Burlington Fire Department for their commitment to becoming a firefighter and for their current and future contributions.”
