After the Aug. 4, 2014 flooding, Aquafor Beech Limited was hired by the City to complete a Flood Mitigation Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) in the Tuck Creek watershed between the Hydro Row and Lake Ontario.
Five alternatives were developed and evaluated to reduce flooding within this area. Based on the results of evaluation and consultation with the City, Conservation Halton and the public, Alternative 4 was selected as the preferred alternative. Alternative 4 is upgrades to New Street, Regal Road and Spruce Avenue crossings and creek width increases. This alternative will reduce the number of buildings at risk of flooding during a '100-year storm' and regional storm.
As recommended by the EA study, the work will be completed in three phases:
Phase 1: Regal Road Bridge upgrade and channel improvements. Completed in 2019.
Phase 2: New Street Bridge upgrade and channel improvements. Channel works completed in 2020. New Street Bridge to be constructed Spring/Summer 2021.
Phase 3: Spruce Avenue Bridge upgrade and channel improvements. Construction scheduled for 2024/2025.

The Proposed works for Phase 2 and3 will include:
- Widening and deepening of Tuck Creek to increase flow capacity in the channel.
- Installation of armourstone retaining walls to protect private property from erosion.
- Incorporation of existing storm sewer outfalls into proposed channel.
- Increasing slope stability by installing potted plants and live stakes.
- Enhancement of aquatic habitat through pools and riffles and riparian plantings.
Public Information Centre
A key part of the project was consultation with you: the public, landowners and regulatory agencies.
The Public Information Centre (PIC) for Phase 2 provided information on the construction, design, site access, tree preservation and plantings.

Construction
Phase 2 includes upgrading both the New Street bridge and creek channel from the hydro corridor to south of New Street.
Construction of the channel works have been completed in 2020. See construction drawings.
The New Street bridge and channel works construction is anticipated to begin spring/summer, 2022.
