Community Mindfulness Burlington is inviting residents to a series of free drop-in mindfulness sessions in Burlington parks in July and August.
The mindfulness sessions are led by volunteers from Community Mindfulness Burlington and partly supported by the City of Burlington’s Neighbourhood Community Matching Fund.
Mindfulness is a type of meditation where a positive mental state is achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations.
Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or meditation cushion. Mindfulness activities are inclusive and secular. All welcome to participate.

About the Neighbourhood Community Matching Fund
The City of Burlington's Neighbourhood Community Matching Fund provides up to $5,000 to support projects led by neighbourhood and community groups. In 2018, $20,636 has been awarded to support community projects. Approved projects receive up to 50 per cent of the funding for the project from the city. The neighbourhood groups then match this funding with an equal value through any combination of volunteer hours, donated services, donated materials and supplies or other funds raised. The matching fund has provided over $82,500 to support neighbourhood community group projects.
The City of Burlington encourages people of all ages to get outside and enjoy the many parks, outdoor spaces, playfields and recreational play experiences that support active living and a healthy lifestyle for all ages, abilities and cultures. Quotes
Julia Rodgerson, Supervisor of Marketing and Sponsorship
“The Neighbourhood Community Matching Fund is intended to be used by groups to improve and build community bonds, create a greater sense of belonging and foster well-being and community pride. Mindfulness in the Park is a great example of what we are hoping to achieve by offering this funding and support.”
Jeff Catania, Community Mindfulness Burlington
"We have each benefited from mindfulness ourselves and wanted to share these practices for self-compassion and awareness with the community. It's such a delight to be outside with friends and neighbours, practicing stillness and talking about the everyday experience of being alive, and realizing how special each moment can be."
