Parking

During normal construction hours, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., vehicle access to and from your property may be difficult. Driveways may be temporarily closed when work is being carried out in the immediate area. When your driveway is inaccessible or closed, please park on a neighbouring street, or where no construction is taking place. If your vehicle will be in contradiction to the below by-law, register your vehicle for the On-Street Parking Exemption Program at:

www.burlington.ca/exemption        

How does a parking exemption work?

It allows a vehicle to park on the street beyond the 5-hour limit or overnight between 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., up to 15 days per calendar year, per license plate.

The only two parking offences waived AFTER a vehicle is registered for a parking exemption are:

1.  park exceeding 5-hour limit
2.  park between 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

All other parking offences apply as they are not part of the parking exemption program.

Garbage Pickup

Please continue to put your garbage and recycling out on the usual day. It is the contractor's responsibility to move your garbage to a location that can be easily picked up by the garbage truck and return your garbage containers. To help the contractor return your bins to you, we ask that you write your house number on your garbage cans, recycling bins and green carts.

Access to Your Home

The construction inspector or contractor will notify you of this before the closure.

Water Services

As with any project of this nature, there may be some disruptions to water services at times throughout the construction. You will be given a minimum of 48 hours notice before any scheduled water shut down. Thank you for your patience.

Vibration

There may be times when you feel some minor vibrations from construction equipment. We recommend that you remove small, light objects from shelving around the house to prevent damage.

Lawn Irrigation System

If you have a lawn irrigation system, we recommend that you disconnect and remove any sprinkler heads within the city's road allowance. The city inspector will notify you if your system is affected.

Road Closures/Lane Restrictions

Lane restrictions and short-term road closures will be in place during construction. You will still have access to your home. Additional information will be provided during construction.

Canada Post

Due to access concerns regarding mail delivery, single-point mail pick-up locations will be arranged by Canada Post. 

Driveway Restoration

Under the contract, asphalt/concrete driveways adjacent to new curb and sidewalk, or that contain water service shutoffs, will be restored from the limit of disturbance to the curb line at the roadway.

Option A

• The City’s Contractor restores the disturbed area under the contract in full width from the limit of the disturbance to the curb line at the road.
• The work is carried out and is included under the contracted warranty period.

Option B

• A homeowner may request to be credited monetarily in-lieu of the City restoring the driveway.
• The City Contractor will remove, full width, the existing asphalt/concrete from the disturbed area, grade to a 50mm depth, and leave in granular.
• The homeowner is reimbursed at the unit price as per the contract (approx. $30 to $40 per square metre) multiplied by the area of disturbance.
• The homeowner enters into a private contract with a Contractor of their choosing and has their driveway restored privately.
• This driveway is removed from the warranty period applied to the project. Special note must be taken with driveways that have a water shutoff within; the valve box must be protected during private driveway paving and remain accessible. Repairs for damage to the valve box will be borne to the homeowner.
• Compensation to the homeowners will be provided near the end of the project by direct deposit or certified cheque via regular mail.
