Each October, the Burlington Fire Department participates in Fire Prevention Week — a province-wide campaign to increase public awareness about the importance of fire prevention.
Fire Prevention Week 2020 focused on the dangers of unattended cooking. Cooking fires continue to be the leading cause of home fires and unattended cooking is the cause of many fire injuries and deaths. According to The Office of the Fire Marshal, the number one ignition source involved in residential fire injuries is cooking equipment, accounting for 38 per cent of the injuries.The Burlington Fire Department is committed to reducing cooking fires through education and prevention. Cooking fire safety is everyone’s responsibility.
