Save precious time by completing the Marriage Licence Quick-Pass in four easy steps.
A licence fee of $160.65 is payable at the time of application processing. Payment can be made by credit or debit card. Cheques will not be accepted.
Either partner can submit the marriage application form in person but the form must include original signatures for both parties and be presented with two pieces of original valid identification for both parties. Copies will not be accepted. Documents in another language must be supported by a certified translator and all documents must be original. Photocopies or expired documents will not be accepted.

The second piece of identification must be in the form of government-issued photo identification, including:
*If a valid passport is used as the first piece of identification, the second piece of identification must be a valid driver’s licence, a valid Ontario Photo Card or NEXUS card.
A Refugee Protection Claimant Document will be accepted.
Marriage licences are issued at the time of application, as long as all information is correct and appropriate identification has been provided. Licences are valid anywhere in Ontario for a period of 90 days.
This form is an option, however, the online quick-pass will save you time at the counter.

Marriage Ceremony |
It is your responsibility to arrange the marriage ceremony of your choice. Wedding ceremonies are not performed at Burlington City Hall. |
Minors |
No person under 16 years of age may be married. Anyone aged 16 or 17 wishing to apply for a marriage licence must have both parents or guardians fill out a consent form at the Clerks department at the time of application, with the exception of applicants who are widowed or divorced. If a parent or guardian refuses to provide consent, application may be made to a judge for an order dispensing with consent. Contact the Clerks department for additional information. |
Blood Test |
Blood tests or medical certificates are not required in Ontario. |
Residency and Citizenship |
There are no residency or citizenship requirements. |
Canadian Divorce |
If either applicant's previous marriage has been dissolved or annulled in Canada, the original certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce must be submitted to the Issuer of Marriage Licences. A Divorce Judgment or Decree Nisi is not acceptable. Certified copies can be obtained from the court that granted the divorce. Photocopies will not be accepted. |
Foreign Divorce |
If either applicant's previous marriage has been dissolved or annulled outside Canada, authorization from the Registrar General's Office is required before a marriage licence may be issued. To obtain this authorization, the applicants, or a lawyer representing them, must submit:

Widow or Widower |
If either applicant is a widow or widower, they are not required to produce a death certificate to obtain a marriage license. |
Publication of Banns |
A marriage may be solemnized under the authority of the publication of banns where both parties to the proposed marriage worship regularly at their own church in Canada. No one may marry under the authority of the publication of banns if there was a previous marriage (dissolved or annulled). Further information concerning marriage under the authority of the publication of banns may be obtained from a member of the clergy. |
