Please allow sufficient time for payments to reach the City of Burlington by the due date or penalty and interest charges will apply.
Tax payments may be made using the following methods:
Pre-Authorized Tax Payment Plans |
Apply for 10 Month or Due Date Plan Pre-Authorized Payment Plan Application (PDF) 10 Month Payment Plan Payments will be withdrawn from your bank account on the first business day of each month from January to October. There are no payments November or December.
*A $40.00 service charge will be applied to your tax account for any payment that is returned to us by your financial institution. Due Date Payment Plan Payments will be automatically withdrawn from your bank account on the regular tax due dates shown on the tax bill in the months of February, April, June and September.

Tax Payer Defined Payment Plan Payments will be withdrawn on the last business day of each month from January to December for the amount you specify. This plan is designed for tax accounts that are behind in their tax payments.

If you are moving within Burlington, neither your Property Account Number nor your Pre-Authorized Tax Payment Plan is transferable. You must complete a new application form for a Pre-Authorized Tax Payment Plan. Changes to your existing plan Cancellation Request (Online form) Supplementary Billings Any supplementary/omit tax bills for new construction or improvements will not be withdrawn through the Pre-authorized Payment Plan. These bills must be paid separately. |
Financial Institution |
Through a financial institution, by internet, telephone banking or in person. A banking fee may apply. Please refer to your financial institution for bill payment processing times to ensure payment is received by the City before the due date. Register with your bank for telephone or electronic payment of your property taxes. You need to use your 5-7 digit property tax account number, located on the top right of your tax bill. If you move within Burlington, you will be assigned a new tax account number, so please be sure to update your bill payment profile to reflect your new tax account number. |
Cheque(s) |
By mailing your cheque(s) and remittance portion for proper credit to: The City of Burlington, P.O. Box 5080, Burlington, ON, L7R 4G4 Please make cheques payable to the City of Burlington. Include your 5-7 digit property tax account number in the memo. |
In person at City Hall |
Service Burlington is now open to pay by cheque or debit. Cash and credit card payments are not accepted. Please visit Service Burlington for more details and hours of operation. You may deposit your cheque, with your remittance portion in the drop box outside city hall, located at the Locust Street entrance. |
Credit Card |
Credit card payments are not accepted directly by the City of Burlington. External agencies, such as Plastiq, PaySimply and PayTM may provide payment of property taxes online. The provider may apply service charges and there may be restrictions to the types of credit cards accepted. Payment is processed by the City on the date we receive the funds which may be a few days after payment is made. Please refer to the service provider's website for terms and conditions of their service, charges and payment processing times. |
Penalty of 1.25% of the amount in default will be added on the first day of default. Interest charges will be applied at the rate of 1.25% on the last day of each month on the outstanding tax balance. When a penalty has been applied in a given month, interest of 1.25% will be prorated from the date of default.
