Construction is now complete and Angela Coughlan Pool will re-open on Monday, Sept. 21, with a reduced selection of programming due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The renovation project which began in March 2019, provided important and necessary repairs and upgrades to the facility. The result is a more efficient, up-to-date and modern pool facility.
To help kick off the re-opening, swimming will be free on Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27.

Changeroom Renovation
Inclusivity is an important value to the City of Burlington. Through the Strategic Plan, the City of Burlington has identified a “Safe and Inclusive Community” as one of its strategic goals. The renovation to the changeroom supports this goal by addressing equity and inclusivity for every member of our community. The new inclusive change space will provide fully private change and/or shower areas for all, removing the need to have designated “Men’s” or “Women’s” changerooms, including:

Why are we creating an inclusive change space?
The benefits to the new change area include:
Increased Privacy |
No more old-style open changeroom concept where several pool users could be naked or in the same area while you change. All changing will happen in private stalls.
Previously, Angela Coughlan had nine private change stalls split between both the Men’s and Women’s changerooms. There will now be 31 private change rooms. 31 private change areas, will include:
|
Increased Safety |
The inclusive change area is designed to allow for clear sight-lines down all the aisles from the pool deck as well as from the community centre hallway. |
Parents with Children |
Fathers with daughters or mothers with sons can change together, rather than sending their child(ren) into a large, open changing area and unsupervised. |
Personal Support |
Caregivers will have an easier time assisting someone in an inclusive change area. |
School Visits |
Schools who use the pool will not have to worry about other swimmers using the old-style open change space and having students change in open groups, possibly with users not associated with the school (i.e. lap swimmers, aquafit, other pool users). |
Inclusive |
Everyone is equal and will have access to full privacy for changing. Free from judgement, embarrassment or discomfort. |
Other Examples |
A number of schools, facilities and other municipalities have already created inclusive change spaces. |
When will the closure take place? |
The pool closure will begin June 2019 |
For how long will the pool be closed? |
The pool will be closed until the fall of 2020. |
What work is being done? |
The following upgrades and enhancements are included in the renovation project:
|
Where can I swim during the closure? |
During the closure, program participants can swim at the other City of Burlington pools. Aquatic programming has been shifted to the other locations to help accommodate participation levels across the city. It is anticipated that demand and participation will increase and be higher than average at the other locations during the closure period. |
Will compensation be offered to pass holders affected by the closure? |
It is our commitment to ensure your program needs are met over this temporary closure period. Lap swimming, Recreational Swimming and Aquafit passes are valid at all Burlington pool locations. A yearly recreation or lap membership will provide you with access to all drop-in swimming programs at all pool locations. If the programs offered at our other City of Burlington do not meet your needs, please speak with an Aquatic Coordinator for additional options.
