Update on the Lakeside Plaza Redevelopment Project – December 13, 2019
Since April 2019 the following steps have occurred:
The new design team met with City staff, the Mayor, Councillor Sharman and the community focus group in December to discuss the site. The community focus group presented their vision for the property, which was the result of extensive discussion and preparation by their members. Many of the guiding principles set out by the community focus group are shared by the new design team and City staff.
The new design team will continue to work on alternative concepts for the site and will be meeting with the community focus group and the City in the new year to further review and exchange ideas in an effort to shape the updated plan for the property.
The applicant intends to develop an updated plan in 2020, and will provide an opportunity for engagement with the broader public before updating all of the required technical information and resubmitting the new proposal to the City.
This proposal affects 3.84 hectares of land on the north side of Lakeshore Road that currently contains a commercial retail plaza known as Lakeside Plaza. Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment applications have been submitted to permit a mix of residential, office, service commercial and retail uses, including the retention of the existing food store.
The overall redevelopment will include a mix of single storey, mid-rise and high-rise buildings that will provide 900 new residential units, 2,700 square metres of office space and 11,955 square metres of service commercial and retail uses.
