Port Nelson Parkette (3000 Lakeshore Rd.) will see a few changes very soon.
Playground Equipment Removal
In spring 2020, the City of Burlington playground maintenance staff completed a safety inspection of the playground equipment in Port Nelson Parkette. The condition of the equipment was found to be poor with potential to become unsafe if not repaired or removed. The replacement parts are no longer available and the structure may be compromised. To protect the health and well-being of kids using the park, the playground equipment was removed August 2020.
The playground equipment was identified in the proposed capital budget for replacement in 2022. Since the park requires shoreline protection work to be completed ahead of the park renewal, the city decided to keep the playground construction on the intended timeline for 2022. This would allow for the proper public engagement and park design process to go ahead as planned.
UPDATE: Due to an extensive shoreline design and permitting process, the window for shoreline construction will not be met in 2021 and will be extended to Summer 2022. The new timeline is reflected below.
