The City of Burlington has completed the West Aldershot Erosion Control Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study to address erosion concerns and produce detail design for erosion control works within the study area. This study was completed as a 'Schedule B' project in compliance with the Municipal Engineers Association Class EA process.
Associated Engineering was retained to complete this Environmental Assessment for the city. This study identified the needs and opportunities for the implementation of erosion control mitigation measures for West Aldershot Creek between Fairwood Place and Lake Ontario. The Class EA Study developed and evaluated a variety of remedial measures to address erosion issues, infrastructure protection and enhancement of aquatic and riparian habitats.
During this study, the existing conditions were assessed, and possible mitigation measures were evaluated and presented to the public, stakeholders and regulating agencies for comments at various stages during the EA study. A preferred solution has been recommended, with preparation of a Project File Report. A copy of the Project File Report and Appendices are available for download below.
The study area is defined as an area section approximately 500 m along Aldershot Creek, from the 750 mm storm sewer outfall near Fairwood Place/Aldershot School to Lake Ontario.
Based on the evaluation of alternative solutions and input from stakeholders and the public during the Public Information Centre (PIC), the preferred solution for West Aldershot Creek is full reach-scale erosion control measures, including complete reconstruction and restoration, for the upstream portion (approximately 250 metres) of the creek, and sub-reach erosion control measures, including protection of infrastructure and private property in localized areas and bank regrading, slope stabilization and removal of existing obstructions, for the remainder of the creek.
A key component of the study will be consultation with interested stakeholders (public, landowners and regulatory agencies). Dates, times and locations of these Public Information Centres (PICs) will be advertised and posted here on the project study page. Those interested may subscribe to this page and will be alerted of future updates.
A Public Information Centre (PIC) to review and discuss the EA Study, including improvement options, was held on :
