Ongoing professional development is vital to the City's success. This is why we provide several programs designed to foster our employees' development and to help them achieve their career goals.
We offer a wide range of internal, external and customized learning programs for employees through Corporate Learning and Development. To ensure the programs offered are dynamic and meet the needs of our diverse workforce, a Corporate Learning and Development Committee, with representation from each division, was developed. This Committee conducts surveys, reviews our employees' values, our strategic plan and other corporate programs to ensure the training offered remains current and relevant.
Our Corporate Learning program includes topics such as:
In addition to Corporate Learning and Development, employees can access financial support for training either through their department's professional development account or through our Staff Education Assistance Program. In this program, an employee may apply for financial assistance up to 100 per cent of the cost for tuition and books.
Supervisors at the City of Burlington provide their employees with career development support.
Human Resources also provides assistance and guidance to those employees who are interested in furthering their careers. Sometimes career development is not a training course but comes in the form of experience gained from participation on a corporate team or taking on an additional assignment. Human resources will help you identify which approach is best for you.
