The use of the City's Accessibility Design Standards is a requirement for all new facilities and major renovations to properties owned and leased by the City. The standards provide a clear understanding of how to create a more usable environment for everyone, including people with disabilities.
In addition to the use of these standards in the construction and renovation for City-owned and leased facilities, we encourage the use of the Accessibility Design Standards in the development and construction of all new facilities, private or public, throughout the community.
Where conflict exists between the scoping and/or dimensional requirements of the Accessibility Design Standards and legislation enacted by the federal or provincial governments, the most accommodating requirements shall apply.
