An official and citizen delegation will visit Apeldoorn to partake in 10th twinning anniversary celebrations. It is anticipated that Mayor Goldring and Mayor Berends will officialy open the new Burlington Park in Apeldoorn. The Burlington delegations will also have the unique opportunity to participate in events commemorating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands. |

Delegations from Apeldoorn visit Burlington to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Apeldoorn and Burlington. The delegations include: officials from Apeldoorn including Mayor John Berends and his wife, a citizen and high school student delegation. As part of the celebrations, on October 9, 2013 dignitaries, visiting delegations and the public gather to watch Mayor Goldring and Mayor Berends participate in a ground breaking ceremony at Apeldoorn Park at 1385 Elgin Street in downtown Burlington. |

Official Burlington delegation travelled to Apeldoorn to mark the 5th anniversary of the twinning relationship between the two cities. City of Burlington presented a piece of artwork to Apeldoorn in celebration of the 5th anniversary of our twinning relationship. Apeldoorn hosted an International Youth Conference, bringing students from around the world, including Burlington, to their community. |
2008 |
Delegations from Apeldoorn visit Burlington. The delegations include: nineteen citizens, officials from Apeldoorn including Mayor DeGraaf and his wife, and three soccer trainers. The soccer trainers shared their experience with Burlington Youth Soccer Club coaches and players. Wim Mulder, a transportation engineer from the City of Apeldoorn, visited Burlington as part of the delegation and provided input to the City of Burlington's Cycling Master Plan. Official Burlington delegation and citizen delegation travelled to Apeldoorn to take part in an Apeldoorn-Burlington conference. (CL-15-07) A youth conference that originated in Apeldoorn in 2005 was held in Burlington. |

First citizen exchange from Apeldoorn to Burlington was organized. |

Official Twinning Agreement was signed by Mayor Rob MacIsaac and Apeldoorn Mayor Fred de Graaf during a special ceremony. City of Burlington presented an original work of art to the Mayor and citizens of Apeldoorn. The quilt and mixed media painting entitled "Jacob's Creek", created by local artists Marian Cole and Elizabeth Pudsey, was enthusiastically accepted and has a place of prominence in Apeldoorn's Art and Culture Museum. Official Burlington delegation travelled to Apeldoorn to participate in twinning ceremonies and Victory in Europe (VE) Day events. 72 Dutch athletes, 12 chaperones and coaches travelled to Burlington to participate in the Burlington International Games. |

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the cities of Burlington and Apeldoorn to recognize the initiation of the twin city relationship. (CL-12-03) "Louise", the stone sofa that is located next to the Naval Memorial in Spencer Smith Park, was presented as a gift from Apeldoorn to the citizens of Burlington to mark the beginning of the twinning relationship. |

Burlington Teen Tour Band (BTTB) was invited to participate in the Netherlands 50th Anniversary Celebration of their Liberation in 1945. The BTTB performed in Apeldoorn and surrounding cities. The delegation included 170 band members, Burlington Mayor Walter Mulkewich, staff, chaperones and a video photographer. |
Annual Event
The City of Burlington hosts an annual celebration of the Canada-Netherlands Friendship Day. The event marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands by the Canadian Armed Forces and celebrates Burlington's twinning relationship with the City of Apeldoorn.
