How do I stay informed when city facilities are closed due to weather? |
The City of Burlington makes every effort to keep our facilities open for scheduled activities and rentals. When unsafe weather conditions occur, the city may close facilities. Three ways to get closure information:
|
Can I cancel my rental event when city facilities remain open? |
When Environment Canada issues a weather alert, advisory or watch, renters may proactively cancel or reschedule without penalty.

How is it determined if a sport field is closed? |
Field closures are based on participant safety and how wet the field is. Heavy rains, snow on turfs or wet surfaces may close fields due to potential damage and they also can become slippery and unsafe for participants. |
When is the decision made to close sport fields? |
Sport field status will be communicated by 3 p.m. Monday through Friday only (excluding Holidays). In the event of a cancellation, permit holders are responsible to pass any cancellation information along to their participants. |
Who can make closure and cancellation decisions? |
To ensure the safety and playability of the fields if weather and/or field conditions change, City staff and/or designated game officials (coaches, referees) may close sport fields or cancel play. The webpage is not updated on the weekends and holidays. |
How can I get up to date information easily? |
Permit holders, coaches, players and parents are encouraged to subscribe to email notifications sent directly to your email at subscribe.burlington.ca. |
