Registering for a Program

Spring 2023 Recreation Program Registration

Youth programs, including music and theatre programs, swimming lessons and aquatic leadership and summer camps.

  • Registration opens on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 9 a.m.
  • Programs are viewable now.
  • For best viewing experience log in to your Live and Play account
  • To view all weeks of Summer Camp, adjust the second date filter to Sept. 1. To view Private Swimming lessons, select a Location and Day of the week using the filter.
  • Non-resident registration opens Friday, Feb. 17 at 9 a.m.

Adult programs vary from sports, games, fitness, creative activities, social events, day trips, discussion and learning programs for adults of all ages and abilities. In-person and virtual courses are offered.

  • Registration opens on Saturday, March 11 at 9 a.m.
  • Programs are viewable on Wednesday, March 1, at 9 a.m.
  • Non-resident registration opens Friday, March. 17, at 9 a.m.

Customer Service
Customer Service is available 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and school breaks. During registration weekend, support is available by phone at 905-335-7738. In-person support is available at the Burlington Seniors' Centre and Tansley Woods Community Centre.

Browsing and registering for recreation programs online is quick and easy with our Live and Play online portal.

Drop-in Programs

Drop in or reserve in advance. Programs go on sale online seven days ahead for residents and three days in advance for non-residents. Online reservations can be made up to the start time of the program. Walk-ups are welcome if capacity has not been reached. Admission is not guaranteed.

How to create a Live and Play account

Before you can register for recreation programs online, you will need to create a Live and Play account.

Create a Live and Play account so you can browse and register for recreation programs online.

Go to Live and Play 
Click on “Sign Up” to create a new account.
Fill in your information
Fill in all your personal information on the “Don't Have a Log in Yet?” page.
Submit your information
Click on “Submit” to finish creating your account. You will receive an email with a temporary password to log in with.
Create a new password
In the “My Info” tab, click on “Manage Login”. Enter the temporary password you received into the “current password” box. Create your new password below, and click “Save”.

How to browse and register for programs

You can browse, purchase and register for recreation programs through the online registration system, Live and Play.

Go to Program Registration
Once you have logged into your account, click on the “Course Registration” tab at the top of the page.
Browse program options
You can filter program and course options by “Age”, “Days of Week”, and “Date Range” on the left side of the page. You can also search by activity type under “Select a Category”. If you know the specific program you are interested in, you can type it into the search bar in the top right of the page.
View program details

Once you have narrowed down your search, you will be able to see information for individual program offerings, including price range, times and dates and applicable age ranges.

To view the program or course description, hover your cursor over the small “i” icon next to the course name.

Click on the blue down arrow to view additional information, such as location and number of sessions.

Select a program
Click on the blue “Register” button to select the program or course you are interested in. After reviewing all the program details on the next page, click “Register” again.
Choose attendees
Select the name of who is signing up for the program. Your name will be here and any family members you may have added. Click “Next”.
Agree to waiver
Read the waiver and check off the agree box at the bottom. Click “Next”.
Select fee
Select the fee for the program that applies to you. If you have a membership pass, you will select the $0 fee. Some programs may have extra fees required to complete registration. Click “Next”.
Review your selection
Review your program selection details. Click “Modify Booking” to edit any information from the previous pages. You can return to this page at any time by clicking on “Booking Summary” at the top right of the page. Click “Checkout” to proceed to payment.
Payment
Fill in your payment information. You can pay by credit card or by account credit from previous refunds. Click “Place My Order” to complete registration.

How to withdraw from a program

You can withdraw online from a program you have registered in if it hasn't started yet and if it doesn't have a withdrawal fee associated with it. If you want to withdraw from a program that has already started, please email us at liveandplay@burlington.ca.

Follow these steps to withdraw from a recreation program before the program start date. 

Log into your account 
To withdraw from a program online, first log into your Live and Play account. 
Choose attendee to withdraw 
Click on the “My Info” tab at the top of the page. Click on the name of the person you wish you withdraw from the program. 
Find the program to withdraw from 
Click on the “Schedules” section to expand it. Click on “Switch to List View” located next to the calendar month at the top of the calendar. Find the line with the program you wish to withdraw from. 
Withdraw from the program 
Click on “Actions” on the right side of the program line. A small box will appear. Click on the “Withdraw” option. 
Choose your refund method 

You can choose “Account Credit” and the refunded amount will stay on your account to be used for future payments. If you paid with credit card, you can choose to have the refund sent back to your card. If you paid with any other method but still want a refund instead of an account credit, please email us at liveandplay@burlington.ca along with your full address to request a mailed cheque.

Once you have chosen your refund method, click on “Withdraw” to complete the process.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

I have an online login but I forgot my password. What do I do?
If you have misplaced your password, simply use the ‘forgot password' link on the login page, and a new temporary password will be sent to the email address we have on file within a few minutes.  You will be prompted to replace it with a permanent password. 

Do I need to have an account to search for programs or view facility availability?

No. You can still search programs and see facility availability on Live and Play. However, if you would like to register for a program or purchase a membership online, you need to have an online login.

I don't want to register online. Can I just register in person?

Yes. You can also register:
  • By email at liveandplay@burlington.ca
  • By phone at 905-335-7738, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or on weekends and holidays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
I have an account, but I can't log in. What do I do?
If you forgot your password, use the “forgot password” option on the login page. If you are having trouble accessing your account, please contact us at liveandplay@burlington.ca.
How can I see the credit on my account?
You can log into your account and view your available credit balance in the payment option section.
Can I manage my own information in this system?
Yes, you can view and manage your own information. This includes adding family members, changing your contact information, adding a credit card to your account for easier checkout, managing your own login and seeing a schedule of the programs you are registered in.
Can I purchase a membership online?
Yes. Learn how to purchase passes and memberships online.
How can I remove someone from my account?
To have someone removed from your account, contact us by email at liveandplay@burlington.ca or call us at 905-335-7738.

Recreation fee assistance

To help create accessible recreation options, we offer fee assistance those who need it. Learn how to request recreation fee assistance.

Cancellations

We may cancel or combine programs before their start date or change other details about the program, including:

  • Fees
  • Instructor
  • Location
  • Time

Whenever possible, we will offer make-up classes for program cancellations due to weather or unplanned facility or instructor issues. During periods of inclement weather, please check our facility closure calendar to see if your program has been cancelled.

Weather Closures and Cancellations

The City of Burlington makes every effort to keep our facilities open for scheduled activities and rentals. When unsafe weather conditions occur, the city may close facilities.

Three ways to get closure information:

  • Subscribe to get email notifications at burlington.ca/subscribe
  • Weather closure information will be updated on burlington.ca/facilityclosures
  • 905-335-7738 will be updated with a recorded message

If facilities remain open and a course needs to be cancelled (for example the instructor unable to arrive safely), staff will make every effort to contact participants in advance

Absences

Unfortunately, make-up classes are not available if you miss class due to illness, vacation or other reasons.

Play standards and code of conduct

We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone in our facilities. Our code of conduct includes rules and policies for our different recreation programs to ensure safe and comfortable participation for everyone.
