E-Scooters have been stored for the winter and will be back on the Centennial Trail in Spring 2026.

| Scan the QR code to unlock the e-scooter and start your ride. |
Start Your Ride |
|
Put your helmet on and push the e-scooter forward to flick the kickstand back. Kick back to push yourself/the e-scooter forward, then press/release the hand throttle to speed up/slow down. Use the brakes to slow down or stop. |
Find Parking |
| When you’ve finished your ride, you must use the app to find a designated Parking Zone. |
Park Your Scooter |
| At the Parking Zone pull the e-scooter back onto its kickstand. |
End Your Ride |
| In the app, swipe right to end your ride. Upload a photo of your properly parked e-scooter and confirm that your ride has ended. Note: You cannot end your ride outside a designated parking zone along Centennial Trail. |
Maximum speeds along Centennial Trail are shown on the SCOOTY app and the e-scooter will not exceed these maximums. In addition, the e-scooter will stop outside of the service zone.
E-scooters are permitted in Ontario by Ontario Regulation 389/19 under the Highway Traffic Act.

What are e-scooters? |
| Electric kick-scooters, or e-scooters, are electrically-powered two-wheeled vehicles. E-scooters have a standing platform between the front and rear wheels, a steering handlebar, hand brake(s), lights, a bell and a kick-stand. |
Are e-scooters legal in Ontario? |
| The Ontario Government's pilot project, authorizes municipalities like Burlington to permit the operation of e-scooters, subject to provincial requirements set out under O. Reg. 389/19: Pilot Project - Electric Kick-Scooters. |
How did the City of Burlington hire a vendor for the e-scooter project? |
|
We invited e-scooter vendors to respond to our RFP (Request for Proposals), which outlined the criteria the vendor was required to meet. SCOOTY was selected to manage the pilot program by renting e-scooters along Centennial Trail. Their e-scooters are shared-use, connected scooters. Each e-scooter includes an Internet of Things (IOT) unit and GPS (Global Positioning System). This means each e-scooter can be:

Can I ride my own personal e-scooter in Burlington? |

No. Personal e-scooters are not allowed on Centennial Trail. Only e-scooters rented using the SCOOTY app are allowed on Centennial Trail between Brant Street, the Elgin Promenade and Burloak Drive. No e-scooters, including personal e-scooters, are allowed on any other pathway, trail, sidewalk or public road in the City of Burlington. |
Can I ride an e-scooter on the sidewalk? |
| No. You may not ride an e-scooter on any sidewalks. An e-scooter rented using the SCOOTY app must be dismounted and walked at street crossings. |

Where can I pick up a rental e-scooter? |
|
When you login into the SCOOTY app, open the map and look for one of the parking zones along Centennial Trail. There are also signs along Centennial Trail to help you find your way to the closest e-scooter parking zone. |
Do I have to drop off my e-scooter at a specific location? |
|
Yes. Drop off your rented e-scooter at one of the designated parking zones along Centennial Trail and end your ride. Your e-scooter’s meter will keep running and charging you until the e-scooter is returned to a parking zone and parked. Once you’ve properly parked the rental e-scooter, you can end your trip and the meter will stop. |
How will you keep other trail users safe? |
|
Pedestrians and those using wheelchairs and mobility scooters have priority. E-scooter riders must follow the provincial requirements set out under O. Reg. 389/19: Pilot Project - Electric Kick-Scooters. You must ride and park safely and courteously, sharing Centennial Trail with all users. |
What if I see an e-scooter that has been left somewhere other than one of the parking zones? |
| Each e-scooter has a Vehicle Identification Number near the front wheel on a yellow sticker. You can report improperly parked e-scooters to SCOOTY. |

What does this pilot cost taxpayers? |
|
There is no cost to the City for the e-scooters. SCOOTY is responsible for providing the fleet of e-scooters, operations and advertising during the pilot. |
