The City of Burlington began the cultural planning process in an effort to align the municipality's goals, planning and policies with the cultural desires and identity of the community and its cultural stakeholders. A Cultural Report was drafted in consultation with the community and presented to City Council in March 2013.
The Cultural Report was followed by the Cultural Action Plan, a set of practical recommendations developed and discussed at two community consultations and through online feedback. The Cultural Action Plan was finalized and approved by Council in November 2013. The plan and its strategic recommendations aim to enhance cultural development in Burlington.
We invite local arts and culture professionals, creative organizations and businesses to host events during Burlington Culture Days. This national initiative aims to raise awareness, provide accessibility and encourage participation in the arts and cultural life of Burlington. Organizers include a full range of cultural creators - from grassroots community volunteers and independent artists to major arts, culture and heritage organizations.
Burlington's Cultural Map allows organizations, businesses and individuals to register, map and search points of cultural interest throughout the city. The online tool provides information about cultural assets and resources available in Burlington.
We collaborate with cultural boards and organizations across the city to enhance the cultural life of Burlington residents. These Cultural Partners help to define and strengthen the fabric of our community.
The Arts & Culture Council of Burlington (ACCOB) aims to build a creative city where arts and culture are practised, valued and supported and where citizens are engaged and enriched by a vibrant arts and cultural community.
