New to the community? Welcome to our city! Every year Burlington welcomes thousands of newcomers from all over the world to our city. This page has been created to help newcomers find out about the services we offer at the City of Burlington and how we can help you.
The City of Burlington has partnered with HMC Connections to make sure we are highlighting the services that are important to newcomers.
The City of Burlington is a municipal government and is one of the four levels of government that helps residents in Halton region. The four levels are municipal government (City of Burlington), regional government (Halton Region) provincial government (Province of Ontario), and federal government (Government of Canada).
There are some services that all of the governments are responsible for like the environment, helping businesses, housing and transportation.
Bus service is provided by Burlington Transit. There is a fee to ride the bus. You can find the bus schedules, route information and plan your trip through Burlington Transit.
If you get a parking ticket because you did not park your car in the assigned area for parking, you can pay for it online or come to City Hall to pay for it.
If you live in a house your car should always be parked in your driveway overnight, but if you need to park your car on the road during the night you will need to let the City know first by filling out a parking exemption form.
The City of Burlington offers many recreation programs where you can register for things like swimming, basketball, skating and summer and winter camps for adults, kids and families.
If you need help paying for the registration fees, the City of Burlington has a fee assistance program for individuals or families. If you are working with a non-profit community organization that focuses on social services they may also apply for the fee assistance for you.
We have many festivals and events during the year at the city, like Canada Day celebrations, Culture Days, a music festival and movie events.
Throughout the year, the City of Burlington would like to hear from residents about a new program, initiative or project the City is thinking about doing. Even though you are new to our city we still want to hear from you and know what you think, this is what we call public engagement. You may have a good idea and public engagement is a way to share that idea with us.
If you want to receive information and get updates on our activities, events or news we have many eNewsletters you can subscribe to.
Anytime you have a question, a concern or need help with something you can contact us by emailing city@burlington.ca or calling 905-335-7777.
