The City of Burlington issues permits for the construction and installation of signs, including:
- Billboards
- Ground signs
- Fascia signs
- Portable signs
By getting a sign permit, you can make sure your sign meets all the requirements of the Ontario Building Code and Sign Bylaw (By-law 034-2007). The Sign Bylaw sets the size, use, location and maintenance of signs and advertising devices within the City.
Apply for a sign permit
There are different permits for different types of signs, sign variances and site alterations. You can submit any of the following permit application forms to us at bylaw@burlington.ca
- Contact us for the Permanent Sign Permit Application for fascia or ground signs
- Contact us for the Portable Sign Permit Application for portable signs or banners
- Contact us for the Sign Variance Application to request a minor variance from the Sign Bylaw
- Submit a Site Alteration Form If your sign will require altering the land it's on

Signs have permit fees depending on the type and size of sign:
