As part of our ongoing environmental sustainability efforts and to support the goal to become a net carbon neutral and resilient community, the City of Burlington has an Electric Mobility Strategy and offers many public charging stations to charge your electric vehicle.
An electric vehicle (EV) is a car that is powered by an electric motor instead of a gasoline or diesel engine. An EV uses rechargeable batteries and does not produce any tailpipe emissions.
Public charging stations
There are several public charging stations throughout Burlington. All of our stations are Level 2 unless otherwise stated and are listed below. More stations are planned for 2024 or later at Robert Bateman Community Centre, Skyway Community Centre and Park and Tyandaga Golf Course. Fees
There is no fee to charge a vehicle, however our parking rates ($1.75/hour) will still apply. Parking is free on weekdays after 6 p.m. and on weekends.
EV parking rules
As per our Parking and Idling Bylaw (By-law 39-2016), a $47 ticket can be issued if you don't abide by the following rules:
- EVs must be plugged in
- EVs must move within four hours of parking
- Only EVs may park in designated EV parking spaces
