The City of Burlington offers tax rebates to eligible owners of designated heritage properties in the city through our Heritage Property Tax Rebate Program.
The program assists designated residential and commercial heritage property owners with the conservation, protection and restoration of their properties. Eligible residential properties receive a 40 per cent rebate on their property taxes, including City, regional and school board components.
Now included in the program for tax year 2022, eligible commercial properties receive a 20 per cent rebate on their property taxes, including City, regional and school board components.
Deadline for applying - You must submit your application by March 1, 2023 by midnight for a rebate on your 2022 property taxes.
The application cycle for the 2022 tax year closed on March 1, and will re-open for the 2023 tax year in January 2024.
We mail application packages to all eligible property owners. You can also complete our Heritage Property Tax Rebate Program Application Form online and submit electronically. Alternatively, send your scanned completed form to us by email at heritage@burlington.ca, by fax to 905-335-7880, or in-person or by mail to:

If approved, you must pay your full tax bill before we deliver your rebate cheque.
You must submit a new application for each property every year. There is no fee to apply.

The program is available to the owners of residential and commercial properties that are designated by the City under the Ontario Heritage Act.
