Parks and public spaces are critical pieces of Burlington’s municipal infrastructure and the public realm. Many studies have shown the social, environmental, economic, and health benefits parks bring to a city and its people.
As the city continues to grow and urban land use increases, parks will become more important than ever before in overcoming the many challenges the city will face in the coming decades. It is vital that the city continues to improve upon and expand its existing parkland to accommodate the existing and future needs of its residents.

What is the general purpose of the Parks Provisioning Master Plan? |
To develop a document which will guide future park acquisition and planning to ensure there is enough and an equitable supply of parkland over the next 20-30 years. Recommendations set out in this study will aid in developing short, medium and long-term park land decision making tools to support existing and future development. |
What is the final outcome of the Parks Provisioning Master Plan? |
|
What is the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Assets Master Plan (PRCAMP) and when will it be updated? |
Initially completed in 2009, the intent of the PRCAMP was to provide the City both strategic directions and specific initiative recommendations for the delivery of parks, recreation and cultural services over a 20-year period. As growth in the city changes and is focused within the existing urban boundary, providing parkland for a growing population will become difficult due to smaller and more fragmented pieces of land. As a result, the City will need to develop a course of action to overcome these challenges, which will include updating the PRCAMP. A comprehensive refresh of the PRCAMP will start in Q2 2023 with an estimated completion time of late 2024. The PRCAMP will be rooted in the Park Provisioning Master Plan along-side related corporate initiatives and technical studies. Refer to the link |
How can I be involved in the process? |
As the PPMP is a technical study, engagement will be focused to council and key stakeholders. Broader engagement with the residents of Burlington will occur during the PRCAMP update which is expected to begin in 2023. |
