A Working Group comprised of members of the public was selected to review and make recommendations on the compensation, benefits, and all applicable expenses of elected officials. Supported by City staff from Human Resources and Finance, the Working Group served as a voice that represents the City of Burlington’s constituents to ensure a fair and equitable review of Council Remuneration for the 2026 to 2030 term of office.
The Group appointed remained active until Council considered the recommendations in the Working Group's final report LLS-54-25 (by December 2025) at the Council meeting on Dec. 9, 2025.
Working Group responsibilities:
- Review existing policies, practices as it relates to the Mayor and City Councillors;
- Compare data to similar-sized peer and neighbouring municipalities;
- Discuss and come to consensus on any proposed updates as it relates to remuneration matters;
- Produce a report outlining the proposed recommendations for the council term of office between 2026 to 2030.
Working Group composition
- The Working Group was comprised of seven (7) members of the public, with one (1) individual designated as Chair.
- Preference was given to individuals with backgrounds or experience in compensation practices, finance or similar fields.
- Members of the Group are volunteers with no remuneration other than for reasonable expenses incurred by attending meetings.
