Specialized Transit

Burlington Transit offers book-in-advance service for customers who cannot use a conventional bus. It provides a safe door to door service so you can travel to any location in Burlington including work, shopping centres and to medical appointments. Specialized transit can also provide connections to Oakville’s Care-a-Van and Hamilton’s DARTS services.

How does Specialized Transit work?

Book your trip

  • Trips can be booked by calling the Specialized dispatch centre at 905-639-5158
  • Trips can be booked using the on-line booking tool
  • Trips can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance.
  • Routine trips for work, school or certain medical appointments can be booked as repeating appointments.
  • If a support person or companion will be riding with you, please let the dispatcher know.

Be ready for your pick-up

  • Rides will arrive up to 15 minutes before your scheduled time.
  • If you must cancel, call as soon as you know. This ensures other clients have the opportunity to use the service.
  • If you are running late, call dispatch to adjust your pick-up time.

Riding on Specialized

  • Depending on bookings, Specialized Transit can be a shared ride; other customers may be on the vehicle with you.
  • Pay your fare using PRESTO or cash. Fares are the same as conventional buses. Visit the fare page [link] for information.
  • Customers will be taken from an accessible door to an accessible door.
  • If you travel to Oakville or Hamilton, you will transfer at a mutual location. Burlington Specialized Transit will take customers to the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital.
  • Drivers will ensure you are safe at all times. If you need someone to meet you at the drop-off door, you will not be left alone until that person arrives to help you.

Specialized vehicles are less busy between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on weekdays
