Can I report excessive noise and light interruptions? |
Burlington’s nuisance and noise bylaw prohibits noise during specific times of day and in certain places. Noise from construction is permitted between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Some exceptions for construction may be made, such as situations where emergency repairs are required. While lighting on construction sites is needed for safety, excessive lighting, that shines into a neighbouring property is regulated. Who can I contact if I have concerns about the dust and dirt generated from demolition? |
During demolition, the City of Burlington’s Building Permit Bylaw (By-law 013-2018) lists requirements that a permit applicant or contractor must follow to minimize the amount of dust generated during demolition. Who can I contact if I have concerns about parking capacity and access due to construction activity? |
The city may issue parking permits for worker vehicles to park on the street or a parking lot near the construction site. The permitted locations take into account safety, emergency response access, municipal services and area residents and businesses. If you have a concern, please contact Parking services by phone at 905-335-7777 or by email at city@burlington.ca. During normal construction hours, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., vehicle access to and from your property may be difficult. Driveways may be temporarily closed when work is being carried out in the immediate area. When your driveway is inaccessible or closed, please park on a neighbouring street, or where no construction is taking place. |
How does a parking exemption work? |
It allows a vehicle to park on the street beyond the 5-hour limit or overnight between 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., up to 15 days per calendar year, per license plate. The only two parking offences waived AFTER a vehicle is registered for a parking exemption are:

During construction, temporary road closures or lane restrictions may be required. In such cases, the inspector or contractor working on a construction site will provide advanced notice to properties in the surrounding area. Will garbage pickup still regularly occur if there's construction in my neighbourhood? |
Please continue to put your garbage and recycling out on the usual day. It is the contractor's responsibility to move your garbage to a location that can be easily picked up by the garbage truck and return your garbage containers. To help the contractor return your bins to you, we ask that you write your house number on your garbage cans, recycling bins and green carts. |
Will I be notified in advance of interruptions in access to water, driveway, street, sidewalks, etc.? |
During construction projects, there may be times where access to services and areas around your home is temporarily disrupted. In such cases, the inspector or contractor working on a construction site will provide advanced notice before any closures. |
Who can I raise concerns with about the condition of the construction site? |
The City's Building section issues permits for the construction, renovation and demolition of buildings, and the City’s Building Permit Bylaw includes requirements for the property owner to ensure construction worksites are secure and not a hazard to the public.
