The City of Burlington's Honour Roll of Trees recognizes large, rare and historically significant trees.
This program was first launched in 1975 with support from Recreation Services, the Burlington Horticultural Society and the Royal Botanical Gardens. 110 trees were recognized at that time.
In 2011, the Ontario Heritage Tree Program recognized the Allview Oak as a Recognized Heritage Tree. This white oak tree is estimated to be over 300 years old. This makes it one of the oldest and largest white oaks in Canada.
In 2019, Forestry staff, with the tremendous support of community volunteers, reviewed the existing roster of the Honour Roll of Trees. As part of this roster update, new placards were installed on the trees to signify them as part of the program, each tree was mapped using GIS, and tree information like diameter and condition ratings were captured. Some of the original honour roll trees had been removed due to old age, and as a result, new trees were added to the roster. To date, there are approximately 120 honour roll trees on both public and private property.
