The interim tax bill is produced in January with two installment dates, typically in the third weeks of February and April. The interim bill is based on collecting half of last year's taxes.
Final billing occurs in June of each year after the budgets for Halton Region and the City have been approved, and the Province of Ontario's education tax rates have been determined. Final billing installment dates typically occur in the third weeks of June and September. Final taxes are based on the assessed value of the annual tax rate.
For those making regular installment payments:
For those making pre-authorized payments on the 10-month Payment Plan, taxes will be withdrawn on the first day of each month between January and October.
For those making pre-authorized payments on the Due Date Payment Plan:
We apply a penalty charge of 1.25 per cent of the amount in default to your account, on the first day of default. We apply interest charges at the rate of 1.25 per cent on the last day of each month on the outstanding tax balance. When we apply a penalty charge in a given month, interest of 1.25 per cent will be prorated from the date of default.
The tax rates for the City, and for regional purposes, are determined as a result of the approval of the respective municipal budgets by City and Regional Council. The tax rates for all classes of property are calculated as a multiplier of the residential tax (RT) rate based on the transition ratios approved by Regional Council. The Province of Ontario establishes the tax rate for educational purposes.
