
The City of Burlington’s updated draft Community Engagement Charter is now ready for review before being finalized.
The City has used public feedback on the original Charter to create this draft.
To date we have engaged with a variety of groups and individuals such as residents, City staff, Members of Council, community groups local businesses, Council appointed Committees, faith-based groups and past members of the Charter Action Team. Staff also sought input at the Food for Feedback event and the Appleby Street Festival in fall 2023.
Some of the proposed changes or updates based on what we heard include:
The draft document is online. Residents are able to review and make comments on the document. There will be three in-person public engagement sessions and one online engagement session.
Session 1: Tuesday, June 4, Burlington Seniors’ Centre, 2285 New St. 7 to 9 p.m.
Session 2: Tuesday, June 11, Tansley Woods Community Centre, 1996 Itabashi Way, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Session 3: Wednesday, June 12. Online. 7 to 9 p.m. Link to register is at getinvolvedburlington.ca/engagement-charter.
Session 4: Wednesday, June 19, Tansley Woods Community Centre, 1996 Itabashi Way, 7 to 9 p.m. All are welcomed; however, this session is in partnership with the Halton Multicultural Council (HMC). HMC will provide translation services for anyone who requests the service. Anyone registering for this session will be asked which language they would prefer.

About the Community Engagement Charter
The Charter is 11-years old and is need of an update to reflect the growing and changing needs of the community.
The Charter is an agreement between Burlington City Council and Burlington residents. It supports better access to your local government. It also outlines the City’s commitments for engaging with people. Engaging people on issues that affect their lives and their city is important. The Charter seeks to make sure that residents can interact with the City in an accessible, inclusive and meaningful way.
