TAKE NOTICE that the Corporation of the City of Burlington is providing this notice pursuant to Sections 34 and 39.2 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.13, as amended, and the Burlington Delegated Authority Bylaw (By-law No. 71-2023), as amended, for housekeeping purposes to ensure clarity and to assist in the consistent interpretation and application of the City’s Zoning Bylaws.
The Director of Community Planning of the City of Burlington intends to pass the amending bylaw through delegated authority on May 5, 2026.
Purpose and effect of the proposed bylaw
The proposed housekeeping amendments would update Zoning By-law 2020 by adding references to the new residential zones in the Burlington Residential Zoning Bylaw to ensure the bylaw is clear and consistent.
Zoning By-law 2020 contains regulations such as minimum setbacks and landscape buffers to residential zones to ensure compatibility between residential and non-residential uses, and between different building types across the city. These regulations currently apply only to the residential “R” zones in Zoning By-law 2020.
On March 2, 2026, Council approved the Burlington Residential Zoning Bylaw, which placed most residential properties into new “LN” or “HN” zones. As a result, Zoning By-law 2020 must be updated to include these new zone codes, so the same regulations continue to apply.
