Back to SearchBurlington, Ont.—Sept. 15, 2022— The City of Burlington will observe the National Day of Mourning as a one-time holiday on Monday, Sept. 19, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II. This day coincides with the Queen’s funeral.
Impacts to City Services
- City Hall and other non-essential city services, including Service Burlington, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022.
- Halton Court Services will be open and operating with skeleton staff, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including the court administration counters. All regular court appearances scheduled will be proceeding as planned. Telephone and email services will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 905-637-1274 and burlingtoncourt@burlington.ca.
- Road and parks maintenance for garbage pickup, washroom cleaning, road patrol and cemetery services will continue.
- Recreation facilities are open for scheduled programs and rentals on Sept. 19.
- Regular Burlington Transit service will be provided.
- Engineering Services will continue to provide inspections on ongoing City of Burlington capital construction projects.
- Crossing guard and parking enforcement services will be provided.
- Bylaw enforcement will be available to handle any emergency work that may arise.
- Registration to delegate at the Sept. 20 meeting of City Council has been extended to Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 8:30 a.m.
A public viewing of the Queen’s funeral will be hosted by the Burlington Performing Arts Centre (BPAC) on Sept. 19. The doors will open at 5 a.m., with the funeral scheduled to start at 6 a.m. Residents are also invited to send a message of condolence through the National Electronic Condolence Book or in person at City Hall (426 Brant St.) from 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., until Friday, Sept. 16. The Book of Condolence will again be made available at BPAC on Monday, Sept. 19 for signing.
