The following information may be helpful if you are concerned about a construction project in your neighbourhood.
Utilities |
Utilities such as Union Gas, Hydro and Bell Canada have already started to locate their existing infrastructure to prepare for this construction. Please do not remove these marker stakes or paint markings. Staff will return to remove them once the project is complete. |
Watermain works |
There will be interruptions to your water service during construction while completing watermain tie-ins and when transferring the houses to the new watermain. Halton Region will provide 48 hours advanced notice of all scheduled service interruptions. Some watermain installation and tie-in work may be required to take place at night. |
Access to your home |
Please note that during normal construction hours (Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.) vehicle access to and from your properties may at times be difficult, additionally, driveways will be temporarily closed when work is being carried out in the immediate area. Either the inspector or the contractor will notify you of access interruptions before the closure. |
Your front yard and driveway |
As part of this project, the curb and sidewalks will be replaced. Minor regrading of your boulevard lawn near the road will be required. Any damage to your lawn, walkways, and driveways will be restored. |
Road closures/lane restrictions |
Lane restrictions and short-term road closures will be in place during construction. You will still have access to your home. Additional information will be provided during construction. |
Parking |
For the duration of construction, enforcement of the “5-Hour” maximum on-street parking by-law will be relaxed when your driveway is inaccessible or closed. Residents are asked to register their vehicle online or call 905-335-7816 Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Vehicles are not permitted to park where signs are posted. (e.g. No Parking, No Stopping, and Fire Route etc.) In addition, vehicles are not to block fire hydrants, driveway access or park their vehicles facing the wrong direction. How does a parking exemption work? It allows a vehicle to park on the street beyond the five-hour limit or overnight between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., up to 15 days per calendar year, per licence plate. The only two parking offences waived after a vehicle is registered for a parking exemption are:
All other parking offences apply as they are not part of the parking exemption program. During city construction projects, the extra days will not be included in the 15-day-per-year limit when your driveway is not accessible. However, it is important to register your vehicle for this program so that you will not receive a parking ticket. If you have any questions as it relates to parking please contact Parking Services at |
Garbage pick up |
Please continue to put your garbage and recycling out on the usual day. It is the contractor’s responsibility to move your garbage and recycling to a location that can be accessed by the garbage truck and return your garbage/recycling containers. To help the contractor, we ask that you mark your house number on your garbage cans and recycle bins. |
Lawn irrigation system |
If you have a lawn irrigation system where curb and sidewalk are to be replaced. We request that you flag all irrigation heads, so they are not damaged. The City is not responsible for damaged heads within the road allowance. This does not have to be done until work in your area is scheduled. |
Vibration |
You may at times experience some minor vibration from construction equipment. We recommend that you remove small light objects from shelving around the house. If you require more details, please do not hesitate in calling the contacts above. |
Trees |
Tree protection barriers will be erected around all trees in the right-of-way, within the construction limits, with an opening to allow homeowner access to maintain the area within. There will be a number of boulevard trees removed due to conflict with the installation of the new watermain. Alternate watermain installation locations and methods have been reviewed in depth, but it has been determined that these removals are unavoidable. Homeowners adjacent to these removals will each be informed prior to removal. The specific trees that require removal can be viewed on the project drawings on the project updates below. If additional trees require removal due to unforeseen impact or conflict, homeowners will informed. |
Updates will be posted throughout the project.
