Britannia Road culvert, west of Walkers Line - July to October 2026
The City of Burlington will be replacing two existing stormwater culverts on Walkers Line (south of Britannia Road) and Britannia Road (west of Walkers Line).
The Walkers Line culvert will be replaced during the summer 2025. The work will include the removal of the existing corrugated steel pipe culvert and replacement with a concrete box culvert system. As part of this project, roadway improvements will be made including localized roadway repaving and steel beam guiderail installation.
The Britannia Road culvert west of Walkers Line will also be replaced in 2026. The structure is approaching the end of its service life and is recommended for replacement. The City will be replacing the existing rigid frame culvert with a concrete box culvert system.
During construction activities full road closures are anticipated. Signed detour routes will be installed ahead of construction and provide an alternative route around the construction area.

Road closures

A full road closure is needed to install the culvert on Walkers Line. Vehicle traffic will be able to follow the designated detour route using Britannia Road, Appleby Line, and Side Road No.2. Signage will be installed in advance of the construction work. Once the culvert installation is complete including road resurfacing work, the Walkers Line project area will be re-opened to the public. View the Walkers Line culvert proposed detour plan (PDF)

Starting in July 2026, a full road closure will be installed on Britannia Road, west of Walkers Line to allow for construction of the proposed culvert. Vehicle traffic will be able to follow the designated detour route using Britannia Road, Guelph Line, and Derry Road. View the Britannia Road culvert proposed detour plan (PDF)
