Acting as a high-efficiency air conditioner in the summer, and a heater in the winter, an air-source heat pump uses a refrigerant that responds to temperature. In summer, a heat pump will move heat out of your home and release it outdoors. In fall and winter, it brings heat into your home from outside, even when it’s cold outside.
Air-source heat pumps are more energy efficient than air conditioners.
The City of Burlington worked with the Centre for Climate Change Management at Mohawk College to develop Better Homes Burlington. Funding to support a feasibility study was approved by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities through its Community Efficiency Initiative program.

“Air-source heat pumps act as a two-in-one and replaces a standard air conditioner and furnace. It heats your home in the winter and cools it in the summer. They are more efficient at cooling and use electricity for heating, so it reduces a home’s greenhouse gas emissions.”
