The City of Burlington is proposing a housing-focused Community Improvement Plan (CIP) that will apply to Burlington’s Urban Area, the community improvement project area. The CIP will incentivize the creation of new affordable rental housing options, supporting the City’s Housing Strategy, including Action 8 to “Provide incentives through a Community Improvement Plan (CIP) for the delivery of housing options to meet the needs of residents.”
The proposed CIP has been informed by the CIP Study Project and various inputs including Council direction, financial feasibility analysis and public and housing industry feedback.
The proposed CIP will be available for public review and feedback on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, on the City’s website at getinvolvedburlington.ca/housingstrategy. This webpage will be updated throughout the process and include information about a future Council Meeting. To request a hard copy of the proposed CIP, please email housingstrategy@burlington.ca to arrange pick-up.

Burlington, Ont.— March 5, 2025— Spring is around the corner and it’s time for the annual migration of a local and beloved endangered species in Burlington. On Wednesday, March 12, the City will close a section of King Road to allow for Jefferson salamanders’ breeding migration. King Road, from North Service Road to Mountain Brow Road, will be closed so the salamanders can cross the road safely in their search to find a mate. Local traffic for all properties between North Service Road and the escarpment will be maintained. King Road will reopen for through traffic on Wednesday, April 9, when the salamanders are predicted to finish their annual crossing.
Since 2012, the City of Burlington has partnered with Conservation Halton to protect the Jefferson salamanders by closing this section of road to allow the salamanders to safely cross. They are a nationally and provincially protected endangered species.
About the Jefferson salamander
The Jefferson salamander is found in Southern Ontario...

While the heavy snowfall has passed, our winter operations crews remain hard at work. A Significant Weather Event Declaration was declared on Feb. 15 and remains in effect.
As part of the Significant Weather Event declaration, cleanup efforts continue 24/7 following the heavy snow this month. Throughout the weekend, crews continued working on snow clearing and roadside snow removal.
The Declaration is expected to remain in place through the week of Feb. 24 as we continue with storm cleanup.
Thank you for your patience.
