Notice of passing of Zoning Bylaw 2020.480

Burlington City Council passed Bylaw 2020.480 to amend Bylaw 2020, as amended, on July 16, 2024, under Section 34 of the Planning Act, 1990, as amended. File number: 520-02/24 (PL-52-24)
Bylaw 2020.480 rezones land at 236 Plains Rd E to permit a four-storey condominium townhouse block consisting of six units on a private condominium road.
Public Consultation on the proposed zoning bylaw amendment occurred through a Statutory Public Meeting held on July 9, 2024, at the Committee of the Whole. Notice of the Statutory Public Meeting was mailed to tenants and owners within 120m of the subject land on June 6, 2024, and published in the Hamilton Spectator on June 7, 2024. The City received 11 comments on the proposed amendment. There were four delegations at the Statutory Public Meeting on July 9, 2024.

Burlington City Council passed Bylaw 2020.479 to amend Bylaw 2020, as amended, on July 16, 2024, under Section 34 of the Planning Act, 1990, as amended. File number: 520-03/24 (PL-51-24)
Bylaw 2020.479 rezones land at 2071 Fairview St. to permit a reduction in the minimum required office space for the two (2) 18-storey towers. Public Consultation on the proposed zoning bylaw amendment occurred through a Statutory Public Meeting held on July 9, 2024, at the Committee of the Whole. Notice of the Statutory Public Meeting was mailed to tenants and owners within 120m of the subject land on June 7, 2024, and published in the Hamilton Spectator on June 7, 2024. The City received two comments on the proposed amendment. There was one  delegation at the Statutory Public Meeting on July 9, 2024.

Notice of Intention to Remove a Holding (H) Symbol for 2294 and 2300 Queensway Dr.

TAKE NOTICE that the Corporation of the City of Burlington is providing this Notice of Intention to Remove a Holding (H) Symbol pursuant to Section 36(4) of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, as amended, for lands municipally known as 2294 and 2300 Queensway Dr. 

Council of the Corporation of the City of Burlington intends to pass the amending bylaw (By-law No. 2024.XXX) at the Council Meeting on Aug. 7, 2024. 

The proposed amending zoning bylaw would amend Zoning By-law 2020 for the property located at 2294 and 2300 Queensway Dr. by removing the Holding (‘H’) Symbol prefix to permit the underlying Medium Density Residential Exception (‘RM3-513’) Zone category to take effect. The applicant intends to develop 24 townhouse units.

Burlington Flood Update for July 17

Burlington and surrounding areas have received a large amount of rain since July 15. Flooding has occurred in several areas throughout the city and as a result, Burlington is now in Level 2 Enhanced Monitoring response. The City is making progress on clearing blockages, repairing/cleaning roads, boulevards, and tree debris removals. City staff and contractors will be out cleaning up and clearing debris over the next several days or weeks. 

Updated reports indicate that on July 15, approximately 65mm of rain fell in three hours with more rain coming later. Work is ongoing to confirm the total precipitation. 

Residents who need power, shower facilities or a comfortable place to go can come to any City recreation facility during normal business hours.  

The City is working very closely with community partners including Burlington Hydro, Halton Region, Halton Regional Police Services, Enbridge Gas and the Ministry of Transportation.

Lead artist selected for Civic Square preferred concept

Burlington, Ont.—July 16, 2024— The City of Burlington has a final preferred concept design for Civic Square. It has also selected LeuWebb Projects as the Lead Artists for the Civic Square Renewal project.

The reconstruction of Civic Square will make sure important infrastructure is renewed.

The Civic Square final preferred concept is based on extensive engagement and feedback from the community. It is an evolution of Concept 2 - Atrium to include some design features from the other two concepts.

The preferred concept includes key features such as:

  • a new entryway,
  • focal point canopies at Brant Street/James Street and Elgin Street,
  • continuous canopies along the building facade,
  • transitions to nearby properties and streets,
  • a variety of seating,
  • flag poles at the building entrance,
  • an in-ground water feature with water jets and
  • wave-themed patterns in paved surfaces.
