Use PRESTO to ride Burlington Transit and travel on transit throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. PRESTO offers several ways to pay your fare – physical card, digital card and contactless using your debit or credit card.
Physical PRESTO card |
Buy and load your PRESTO card online or in-person at our Downtown Terminal (430 John St., Burlington), at any Burlington Shoppers Drug Mart location or GO Transit station. Physical PRESTO cards cost $4.00. Setup an account to activate and register your card. Visit PRESTO Card website for more information. Registering your card protects any money or transit passes you have on your card. Registering your PRESTO card provides many benefits, including automatic balance protection, the ability to set up automatic reloads, access to your transaction history, and receiving email notifications. Mobile Wallet and a Digital PRESTO Card |
Use your phone or watch to pay for our ride! Use a PRESTO card in your mobile wallet and get the same convenience of PRESTO without a physical card. You can get a new PRESTO card in your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for free through the PRESTO app or directly from your phone’s Wallet app. Convert your existing physical card using the PRESTO app on your device. When converting an existing physical card, once transferred the physical will no longer work. |
Contactless |
PRESTO Contactless is a convenient way to pay the $3.50 fare. Use your debit or credit card by tapping on the PRESTO card reader. Child, youth and senior discounts are not available when using contactless payment. If your trip includes a transfer or travel on GO Transit, use the same card to ensure you get a transfer. When you use the same card you will receive a 2-hour transfer on Burlington Transit. Ensure you take your card out of your wallet to tap on the PRESTO device. |
Which card will be charged if I tap my physical wallet with multiple cards? |
PRESTO devices can accept PRESTO, credit and debit cards, so tap only with the card you want to use. Remember to take the card you want to pay with out of your wallet, purse or phone case whenever you tap. Taking your card out to tap will make sure you pay with the right card. With Express Transit, you don’t need to wake or unlock your iPhone or Apple Watch or open any apps to use PRESTO in Apple Wallet. Just hold your device near the reader to pay and go. |
How do I load value onto my PRESTO card? |
There are several ways to load your PRESTO card or check your balance:
If you use PRESTO in Apple Wallet, you can’t add transit passes directly through Apple Wallet, but you can do so through the PRESTO App. |
Should I register my PRESTO credit or debit card? |
As soon as you get your PRESTO card, use the PRESTO app or visit prestocard.ca to register your card. Registering your card protects your funds and passes. Registering your credit or debit card on prestocard.ca allows you to see the last 180 days of transaction history on the PRESTO app or website (unregistered cards are the last 7 days of transaction history). Transaction history isn’t available for mobile wallet debit cards through the PRESTO app or website. Registering your PRESTO card provides many benefits, including automatic balance protection, features like Autoload and Autorenew, access to more of your transaction history, and email notifications. |
